Ashley returns to the TrueCar Racing Women Empowered Initiative for her second season with a new challenge ahead of her. In 2013 she will once again, step outside of her comfort zone to compete in sportscars for the first time in her career, racing the #51 Porsche GT3 Cup Car for EFFORT Racing in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge.
Ashley’s racing career began in 2004, at the age of 13, when she attended the Jim Hall Karting School and competed in her first karting event at Daytona International Speedway. By 2005, she had placed fourth overall in the karting Championship Enduro Series regional point standings, and seventh in the World Karting Association national point standings. Within two years, after winning a national karting championship, she moved into open-wheel racecars and completed the three-day Skip Barber Race School in Daytona in 2006.
In 2008, Ashley entered her first SCCA National race in Formula Mazda, starting 26th and finishing fourth. Her outstanding performance earned her an invite by Mazda to compete in her first Skip Barber National race where she placed sixth of 17 starters.
Winning a total of 25 Skip Barber races, Ashley captured two Skip Barber Series championships, becoming the first woman in history to win a Skip Barber Racing Series overall title, the first woman to win a Skip Barber National Series event, and the first woman to win a Skip Barber MX-5 Cup race, winning four races out of six. Ashley finished fifth overall in the National Series and recorded an impressive top-five finish in her first Star Mazda race. This led to her nomination for the prestigious Team USA Scholarship, becoming only the second woman ever nominated for this award (Danica Patrick was the only other female nominee).
